Parttime (12+ hours per week), midday (10:30am1:30pm) Position
Job Summary/Responsibilities:
Families Together Cooperative Nursery School, a cooperative preschool in Chicago’s Edgewater neighborhood, seeks an enthusiastic, experienced, and organized educator to lead our new extended day “lunch bunch” program for preschool children ages 3, 4 and 5. Our school provides a playbased educational environment in which children thrive and parents are integral to the life of the school. At our core is a commitment to diversity and equity, genuine collaboration between educators, families and children, and a creative and flexible approach to supporting each child’s cognitive, social and emotional growth.We offer partday preschool classes that are 2.53 hours in the morning and afternoon; the “lunch bunch” program will be an optional “addon” that will allow morning students to stay until 1:00pm and afternoon students to come as early as 11:00am. The program will include time for children to have a relaxed puzzle/game play time, eat lunch, and participate in an active rotating enrichment class (such as dance, drama, music, yoga, Spanish, etc.). Requirements: This position is an excellent opportunity for an educator who: loves working with 3, 4 and 5 year olds. deeply values the role of play and family involvement in the development of preschool aged children. is looking for a set parttime position between the hours of 10:30am1:30pm, MTh, beginning in early September and ending in early June. If interested, we may be able to offer the right candidate extra work on Fridays, on MTh morning or afternoon, and during our summer program in June.
is confident taking the lead in collaboratively envisioning and implementing the optimal structure for this new program with other school staff members. is nurturing, deeply selfreflective, a great problem solver, organized and efficient, and flexible and innovative in meeting the needs of a diverse group of young children. is experienced, confident, and joyful in facilitating developmentally appropriate play, leading children through multiple transitions, and supervising and ensuring the safety and wellbeing of a group of 1518 young children. communicates with clarity, specificity, and sensitivity, both verbally and in writing. is able to stand and walk for long periods, lift up to 50 pounds, and crouch, kneel, stoop or crawl with ease. is comfortable singing and leading children in song. has significant experience teaching and taking a leadership role in an early childhood education program and at least eighteen (18) credit hours of Early Childhood/Child Development coursework.
Compensation: This is an approximately 12 hour/week position with a highly competitive hourly rate, health benefits, paid sick time, and professional development opportunities. Flexible extra paid hours on Fridays, MTh morning or afternoon, and during our summer program in June may be available for the right candidate.
