Twitter at Opening Minds

Chicago Metro AEYC is on Twitter for this year’s Opening Minds!

What is Twitter?

Twitter is a web application that lets you stay in constant contact with a person or an event. We will be using Twitter to blog live about what’s going on at Opening Minds (including schedule/room changes, Business Bingo drawings, and cancelled workshops).

How can I use Twitter at Opening Minds?

You can use Twitter to connect with other attendees, post comments about what you learned in a workshop or let everyone know about a great booth you saw in the exhibit hall. A big-screen projection of Twitter is available in the Regency Foyer.

Get Opening Minds updates on your cell phone via text message!

It is highly recommended that you set up Twitter phone updates before you get to the conference! Otherwise, computers and internet access are available for your use in the business center of the Hyatt Regency. If you are a Chicago Metro AEYC Member, you also have computer and internet access in the Member Lounge, next to the Regency Foyer.

To get Twitter updates on your cell phone –

  1. Go to twitter.com and sign up for a free account. Twitter works on the basis that you choose to follow certain users and users choose to follow you.
  2. Once you’re signed up and logged in, go to twitter.com/cmaeyc to see our Twitter page, then click on “Follow” just below our logo.
  3. Next, click on “Settings” and then “Devices”. Type in “+1” and your phone number and click “Save”. Twitter will ask you to send a text message from your phone to 40404 in order to verify the number.
  4. Once you’re verified, send another text message to 40404 that says “follow cmaeyc” and you will begin to see Opening Minds updates!

Your phone carrier’s standard text messaging rates apply. To silence updates, just text "off" to 40404. You can text "on" when you get on site to be sure you don't miss any important updates.

Use Twitter to comment on presentations and exhibits!

To have your comments and questions posted, you must sign up for a free Twitter account at twitter.com. Enter your comment in the “What are you doing?” box and be sure to include the Opening Minds phrase, "#om2009". Your comments will be visible to everyone who is following us (see above)!
